About Claudia Olson
I have a Masters of Acupuncture from the Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly known as Tai Sophia Institute), the first accredited school of acupuncture in the United States, and am licensed to practice acupuncture in Maryland. In addition, I have a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the National University of Ireland.
I have been practicing Tai Chi for over 30 years and teach Tai Chi and Qi Gong in Frederick, Urbana, Gettysburg, and Westminster. I have been living in Maryland with my husband since 1991.
Trust has never been my strong suit. Western medicine had succeeded in crashing my immune system and relieving the immediate symptoms but could not heal the damage of a lifetime of autoimmune disease. How to cope? Years went by and I was finding some relief in Claudia’s Tai Chi classes. I trusted Claudia, no small accomplishment for me. Could acupuncture relieve the inflammation that plagued my life? Yes, as it turned out, her gentle approach to acupuncture gives me peace, to live and hope again.
Re: acupuncture treatments before & after the flu shot:
As far as I’m concerned, those treatments were an unqualified success!
I experienced a mild reaction following the first treatment---basically, I got to clear out my sinuses (which I hadn’t realized were clogged). Because of the minor sinus problem, I lost my first cup of coffee on Wednesday morning. No biggie as far as I’m concerned; I’m on Plavix, and sometimes it has that effect on me (yes, it’s a known side effect).
But aside from some very minor bruising (another Plavix side effect), I’ve had no other undesirable effects from the needles. And the benefits are wonderful. I don’t have the aches, the low-grade fever, or the fatigue that I’ve experienced in the past. I’m ever so glad for that!
Thanks again for passing along the word about Claudia’s treatment offer. I’m very pleased, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to try it.
I love working with Claudia. She holds the space in the respectful and engaged manner of a true professional while being generally fun to be around. I always feel listened to and understood, cared about and for, and then... moved in a direction that I would never have thought of in a million years! Her 'partnership' approach to healing allows me to be an active part of my own process, which is healing in itself! and participating in the process also serves to build trust and confidence in Claudia as a practitioner.
Acupuncture with Claudia has made a huge difference in my life. I have found that working with her has not only closed the chapter on the hot flashes, but we have been able to clear out a bunch of 'stuff' that was getting in the way of living a happy and fulfilled life.
From the moment she greets you to the moment she says goodbye, Claudia is tuned in. Her touch when she feels pulses and administers treatment is nurturing and encompassing.
Claudia has great competency in seeing and understanding the energetic movements displayed and described by her patients. But her real skill comes in her ability to diagnose and interpret these phenomena and translate them into sound treatment strategies based on acupuncture theory and her own energetic instincts. She seems to be able to rely on her brain and her heart equally when it comes to developing treatments--both serve her extremely well, which is rare these days.
